Homelessness Overview

The Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board (RRDSSAB) is working to address housing and homelessness related needs throughout the Rainy River District by participating in the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative (CHPI).  The RRDSSAB will assist people who are homeless to obtain and maintain permanent, affordable housing and to assist those who are at risk of homelessness to remain housed.  The RRDSSAB is working to prevent, address and reduce homelessness by offering four separate service components:

  1. Emergency Shelter Solutions
  2. Housing with Related Supports
  3. Other Services and Supports
  4. Homelessness Prevention

The four service categories capture services and activities designed to meet the needs of households who are:

  • Currently homeless; or
  • At risk or in imminent risk of homelessness

Eligibility – General Requirements

  1. Applicants must be sixteen (16) years of age or older; Canadian citizens
  2. Low income household
  3. Currently Homeless; or
  4. At risk or imminent risk of homelessness
  5. Not accessed CHPI funding within a 24 month period; only under exceptional circumstances, and at the discretion of the Manager, will applications be approved if the applicant has accessed CHPI funding within a 24 month period  
  6. Only one applicant per household
  7. Applicants must demonstrate that other sources of income have been exhausted
  8. Funds must be paid to the Landlord, Heat or Utility Company, or vendor directly and a receipt provided for every file.
  9. The Consent Form must be signed and witnessed in order to verify and remain on file
  10. Housing must be sustainable and habitable
  11. Assets must be under the Ontario Works Rate Chart
