Realignment of Land Ambulance in the Rainy River District:
- 1997 Province announces Local Services Realignment (downloading) for implementation in January 1, 1998
- 1998 Province announces they will upload 50% of Land Ambulance and Public Health
- Fall 1999, Province requests interested Municipalities and DSSABs put in offers to operate Land Ambulance commencing January 1, 2001
- Rainy River DSSAB is successful and is named the Designated Delivery Agent (DDA) for Land Ambulance Delivery in the District of Rainy River
- January 1, 2001 as the DDA the RRDSSAB is responsible for ensuring the proper provision of Land Ambulance Services in the District of Rainy River in accordance with the needs of the persons within the District
- January 1, 2001 the RRDSSAB agrees to a one year contract with Atikokan General Hospital and Riverside Health Care Facilities while a review is conducted
- January 2, 2002, RRDSSAB extends the contract with the current Operators for an additional five (5) years.
- In 2006, following several reviews of service delivery the RRDSSAB elects to delivery Land Ambulance directly commencing January 1, 2007
- January 1, 2007, direct operations of Land Ambulance commences with the transfer of approximately forty-seven Paramedics from the existing hospital providers, Rainy River District Emergency Medical Services (RRDEMS) is created.
- January 1, 2016, the service is renamed to Rainy River District Paramedic Services (RRDPS) to reflect the continuing changes in the roles and expectation of Paramedics across the Province and District
