DRRSB Making Progress in Supporting Rose Manor Tenants
Fort Frances, Ontario – 2026/10/23 – The District of Rainy River Services Board (DRRSB) continues to make progress supporting tenants displaced by the Rose Manor fire as they consider housing options and move toward stable housing.
Since the fire, DRRSB staff have been working directly with affected tenants to identify housing opportunities, coordinate alternative accommodations, connect individuals with supports, and help them navigate an extremely challenging situation.
DRRSB continues to identify housing opportunities through its own housing portfolio, private landlords, community housing providers, and other partners across the district. As options become available, staff share the opportunities with tenants, provide information, and help connect them with the supports they may need.
As of October 22, 2026, the DRRSB has identified 35 housing opportunities across the district, and 11 tenants have secured housing. Housing decisions are made by each tenant, taking into account the options available and their individual circumstances.
“Progress is being made and staff remain focused on helping tenants access available housing options,” said Sandra Weir, Housing and Homelessness Prevention Manager. “We continue to work with tenants, landlords, community agencies, and government partners to identify opportunities and prevent homelessness.”
The DRRSB is also continuing work related to the assessment, remediation, and restoration of Rose Manor. Based on current information, tenants are not expected to return until well into 2027.
The DRRSB will continue to look for housing opportunities in Fort Frances and will provide updates as confirmed information becomes available.
