Paramedic Recruitment and Retention

The Rainy River District Paramedic Service is currently facing significant staffing challenges, a situation affecting not only our district but many areas across the province. These challenges make recruitment and retention essential to ensuring we continue to provide timely, high-quality care. We are actively seeking skilled and compassionate paramedics who want to make a difference in our community.

What we’re doing?

We are asking for government support, including:

  • a targeted recruitment campaign to attract paramedics to rural and remote areas like the Rainy River District
  • additional 100% provincial funding for rural and remote services to help with recruitment efforts, and
  • for the province to continue to play a role in addressing the acute shortage of healthcare workers across the north broadly to improve access to family physicians, emergency paramedic services, community paramedicine, and mental health and addiction supports.

Additionally, we are:

  • Attending job fairs/public events
  • Developing communications and promotional campaigns
  • Providing relocation assistance for those coming from outside the district
  • Creating opportunities for career advancement and professional development
  • Introducing flexible scheduling to promote a better work-life balance
  • Investing in modern equipment and technology to support our paramedics in the field
  • Fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment
  • Recognizing the dedication and expertise of our team
