Welcome to Children’s Services in the Rainy River District!
The early years are important. A child's brain and body develop very quickly in the first years of life. The experiences children have in early childhood have a lasting effect on their health and well-being.
We are committed to providing programs and services that enhance opportunities for early childhood development and that support healthy families. We achieve this by working with community partners to invest in and promote an affordable, accessible, responsive, and high quality early years system.
The Rainy River DSSAB has responsibility for the District’s family resource, early learning, and child care system for children from birth to 12 years of age which includes the following:
- Child Care Fee Subsidy
- Licensed Early Learning and Child Care
- Special Needs Resourcing
- Provincial Child Care Wage Enhancement Grant
- Child and Family Centres
- Early Years Community Planning and Knowledge Mobilization
- Planning and Service Coordination Tables for Children and Families
EMERGENCY CHILD CARE
On April 12 the Ministry of Education announced that all Ontario schools will move to remote learning effective April 19, 2021. Child care for non-school aged children remains open during this time. However, licensed child care programs and authorized recreation programs that serve school age children are required to close effective April 19 per the Ministry of Education. To support parents of school-aged children who are required to work during the school closure, the Ministry of Education is implementing a free, targeted emergency child care (ECC) program for school-aged children of eligible parents.
UPDATE: Emergency child care remains in effect until Friday, June 25 (the last day of remote learning for the current school year). After this date parents will be billed regular child care rates for any school-age care received through the centres. Additionally, parents that were not accessing care through the child care centre prior to the school closure period are not guaranteed a spot in the centre after June 25. Parents wishing to retain their child care spot are encouraged to discuss ongoing arrangements with the centre supervisor.
