Most Rose Manor Tenants Secure Housing

Fort Frances, Ontario – 2026/10/30 – Most tenants displaced by the Rose Manor fire have now secured alternative housing, following ongoing support from the District of Rainy River Services Board (DRRSB) as they transition from temporary emergency accommodations to more stable housing.

As of October 29, more than 25 of the 31 displaced Rose Manor tenants have now secured some form of housing. DRRSB has identified more than 35 housing opportunities across the district and continues to bring forward additional options as they become available.

DRRSB staff have been working with tenants to consider housing options, connect them with available supports and make plans for longer-term accommodation. Weekly tenant meetings have ended, with staff focusing on individualized, one-on-one housing planning with tenants who have not yet secured housing.

“The one-on-one meetings have been seeing results,” said Sandra Weir, Housing and Homelessness Prevention Manager. “We recognize that finding the right housing solution can take time, particularly when people have different needs, preferences and financial circumstances. We are grateful to the landlords and property owners who have already come forward to help, and we continue to look for suitable options for the remaining tenants.”

DRRSB-funded emergency hotel accommodations will end on November 15, 2026. To help the remaining tenants secure accommodation, DRRSB is seeking available studio or one-bedroom units in Fort Frances. Property owners or landlords with suitable space are encouraged to contact DRRSB at 807-274-5349.

Work related to the assessment, remediation and restoration of Rose Manor is continuing. Based on current information, tenants are not expected to return to Rose Manor until well into 2027.

DRRSB will share further updates as confirmed information becomes available.
