The District of Rainy River Services Board (DRRSB) is pleased to be opening a new child care centre in Rainy River known as River’s Edge Atelier. The centre is co-located with the new Rainy River K-12 School and is expected to open this fall, pending receipt of child care license from the Ministry of Education.

Co-locating child care centres with schools helps to build strong partnerships between child care programs, before-and-after school programs, and school board programs in order to support children’s learning and well-being. Though the child care centre is part of the school building, the centre has its own designated, licensed space. This means that the centre has its own secure entrance, program rooms, outdoor play areas, offices, and kitchen. Children enrolled in the before-and-after school and full-day school age programs will use classrooms and other spaces within the school.

Child Care Programs and Rates

We offer licensed child care programs for toddlers, preschool children, and school-aged children.

Toddler

Age: 18 months to 2.5 years
Rate: $18.74 per full day

Preschool

Age: 2.5 years to 3.8 years
Rate: $19.11 per full day

School Age

• Full day: TBD
• Before and after school care: TBD

Licensed Spaces

Our licensed capacity includes:

• 15 toddler spaces
• 24 preschool spaces
• 30 school-age spaces

Available spaces depend on staffing levels.

How to Apply

Families living in the Rainy River District can apply for child care by completing the online application form.

Paper application forms are also available by contacting the DRRSB office at 807-274-5349.

Priority will be given until June 9, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. to families whose children are currently enrolled in the licensed full-day child care centre in Rainy River and who remain enrolled until the opening date of the new centre.

After June 9, 2026, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee your child a space in the child care centre. All applications will be reviewed based on program availability and eligibility. Families will be contacted during the week of July 6, 2026 regarding the status of their application.
