Fort Frances, Ontario – 2026/09/23 – The District of Rainy River Services Board (DRRSB) is deeply saddened to confirm that one tenant was pronounced deceased at the scene of the fire at Rose Manor on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

We extend our sincere condolences to the tenant’s family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic incident. Out of respect for the individual and their loved ones, no further personal information will be released by the DRRSB.

“On behalf of the Board, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and neighbours of the tenant we have lost,” said Deb Ewald, Chair of the DRRSB. “Our thoughts are also with the Rose Manor residents and everyone affected by this tragic event. We are grateful to all those who have assisted in the response and in supporting residents during this difficult time.”

All other tenants were safely evacuated from the building and have been provided with temporary accommodations. DRRSB staff and crisis-support workers continue to work directly with tenants to address immediate needs and provide support.

The DRRSB extends its sincere appreciation to all emergency responders, community partners, staff, and others who have assisted residents and supported the response.

The OPP Fort Frances Crime Unit continues to investigate in collaboration with the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Office of the Chief Coroner. Access to the property remains restricted while investigation and safety assessment activities continue.

The DRRSB’s priority remains the safety, well-being, and support of Rose Manor residents and everyone affected.
